Our Safer Leith

Milestones

  • Research

    May 2019

    -

    April 2021

We have spent the last few years researching community design and engagement, gender mainstreaming in planning, and feminist design principles as a grounding to our current projects.
  • Commonplace

    -

    Jan 2023

Our Commonplace platform will be inputted with information by the general public from 13th May - 13th August. After this time, we will be analysing this data and beginning to select possible sites.
  • Community interaction

    Jan 2023

    -

    May 2023

We will begin further, localised community engagement workshops, surveying, etc with a combination of both organised and ad-hoc methodologies.
  • Sketch Designs

    May 2023

    -

    Sept 2023

The design guide will be developed based on the community engagement, and we will have initial design principles that can be incorporated within the legislative parameters of historic environments in Scotland. Final community workshopping exercises will take place utilising sketch design proposals.
  • Exhibition and publication

    Sept 2023

    -

    Nov 2023

The final exhibition and design guide will be prepared and marketed across the UK. We have pencilled November as an indicative date for the final exhibition and public distribution of the design guide in Leith, with further notes on community representation being taken during the exhibition.
  • Ongoing work

    Nov 2023

We will continue our work on striving for gender inclusivity and accessibility within the built environment through further projects. Updates on our work will be found on the HerCollective website.
