Hello and welcome to the HerCollective partnership with Commonplace!

At HerCollective, we aim to spread awareness and open the dialogue about marginalisation of communities and safety in public space. One of our current research projects investigates Leith as a case study for the practical application of femme-centred mixed use development and community engagement principles. With Commonplace we have launched this online mapping platform that anonymously documents both safe and unsafe spaces within Leith. Over the next three months we will be collecting data received through this site to later translate into a form of a design guide for further practice. We were passionate that this would be based on real experiences by people who live, work or use different spaces around Leith.

We hope our work will enhance the inclusivity and safety of Leith in the future. So, please get involved and/ or share this with anyone you know who has experienced the streets of Leith and so would implore you to at some pins to the map if you can. We hope to reflect local people’s stories of Leith in a safe and honest way so please feel no pressure to engage with this map if you are not comfortable with doing so, but thank you for taking the time to look regardless.

For more information about HerCollective and our work so far, please visit www.hercollective.co.uk and feel free to drop us a message directly if you have any questions.

Thank you for taking time to get involved – for regular updates please subscribe to this site or visit our website where we post bi-weekly on our blog. We will share future opportunities for engaging with the project and being represented within it’s outcomes on both platforms so please join our mailing lists.
